International News Thailand: Online Campaign to Curb HIV/AIDSSeptember 9, 2011 Stemming the spread of HIV among Thai men who have sex with men is the goal of a new web-based "edutainment" campaign. MSM comprise about 100,000 of the 500,000 to 600,000 Thais living with HIV/AIDS, said Praphan Phanuphak, director of the Thai Red Cross Society AIDS research center, which launched the outreach with the Disease Control Department and other partners. HIV prevalence among MSM is estimated at 29.1 percent in Bangkok and 10 percent in smaller cities. In addition to information on the importance of testing and treatment to prevent the transmission of HIV, the website offers visitors the chance to chat with each other.
