Shines the Sun

By Shana Cozad

August 17, 2011

The Sun shines on everyone. It shines on all of us, on our bad days and on our good, our somber days and our joyous days. There was a time when we knew little about the sun and whole cultures revered the sun. It hasn't lost any of its powers, it is still very mysterious, wondrous and life giving. And it has not missed a day of your life since you or I arrived here. It shines undeterred. When is the last time you looked up in the sky and said thank you to the sun, for providing you with warmth, sunlight? When is the last time you realized that our ancestors gazed upon, pondered its true significance? The sun has been a daily presence for you and for me. It is my hope that you will spring from your chair and go out and feel the sunshine on your face. Say Hello.

We all have cloudy days. But the sunshine is always there. Other people may think of this in other ways, such as Jesus, God or other religious interpretation. I think about my connection to God every day too. Yet, I am clear in acknowledging the other elements of our Universe and my connection to them. For me, feeling the sunshine, whether virtual sunshine, sunshine in my heart, real sunshine, or any other kind of happy sunshine, is an important way of knowing that ALL is okay. And I do mean everything is okay. You are okay. Everything that has happened to you in your life up to this point is perfect. No one said it would be easy. No one said it would all be fun. But you are, and I am, exactly where we are supposed to be.

When you reach the end of your lifetime on this planet and cast your body to be recycled, will you look at yourself and think about the spectacular job you did; the job of just being you? Because it seems clear, when we dip into the sunshine of life that we all came here with stuff to do and things to learn and lessons for our soul to embrace deeply. So it is amazingly good.

Forgiveness is hard to learn for me. It is one that I work on over and over and over. Sometimes I think I have just gotten to a level of forgiveness (yes, forgiveness has many many levels!!) that has set me free. Then, I am brutally reminded my inner little girl is still in pain and holding on to fears that are from long ago. And I must go back to the drawing board and become the creator of expression so that my inner little girl once again has a chance to purge, cry, scream, and offer a validating way to cleanse her unheard-voice. She needs so much sunshine. She needs to be bathed in it.

So in the process that you are embarked on, this thing that we call "your life" with your job, your family, your friends, your partner, your pets, your vehicles, all these things that make up your daily life, please allow yourself some sunshine today. Let in your heart, your soul, let it into your bones. Know that tomorrow the sun shine is there. This is my prayer for you and I today!!
