U.S. News Baltimore HIV Population Is Becoming Increasingly OlderAugust 12, 2011 Two-thirds of Baltimore residents living with HIV are ages 45 to 64, according to a recent survey by the Greater Baltimore HIV Health Services Planning Council. The previous survey was conducted in 2004; then, most HIV-positive city dwellers were ages 25 to 44. Heterosexual sex was the route of transmission for 52.7 percent of cases in the latest report. IV drug use, which had accounted for most cases in the past, is now the cause of 22.8 percent of infections. The survey polled 800 of the approximately 18,000 Baltimore-area residents with HIV/AIDS.
