U.S. News Georgia: HUD Gives $52 Million to Georgia CommunitiesJuly 29, 2011 The US Department of Housing and Urban Development recently announced that $52 million in housing grants have been awarded to Atlanta and Cherokee, Fulton and Gwinnett counties. Of that sum, $10.5 million is for Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS. "As we work under the challenges of our nation's deficit, we must also understand that these programs are absolutely essential in promoting community development, producing affordable housing, helping our homeless, and even supporting long-term disaster recovery," said Ed Jennings Jr., HUD's regional administrator.
