June 28, 2011
Forty-seven percent of local residents have been screened for HIV, according to the report "Community Health Monitor for the Coachella Valley 2010." By comparison, 39.5 percent of Americans nationwide have taken the test, according to the 2010 National Health Interview Survey. Slightly more than 10 percent of Valley residents identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. The Eisenhower Medical Center and the Health Assessment Resource Center have collaborated to provide free access to the 600-plus-page report; visit www.emc.org.
