Florida Picks Pensacola Artist's Work for HIV/AIDS Book Cover

The Florida Department of Health has chosen a work by Brandon Pence, a self-taught digital artist and a resident of downtown Pensacola, for the cover of its 2012-2014 Comprehensive Prevention Plan book. "I don't think society pays as much attention to HIV and AIDS as it used to," said Pence, who described his inspiration for the artwork. "The light bulb represents bringing light to the issue; the ribbon is the HIV/AIDS ribbon; and the use of black, red, and white are emergency colors. For me, the colors bring a sense of urgency to the image and the issue of HIV and AIDS," said Pence, who works at Revive Media Services in Fort Walton.
