Action Alert: Urge Secretary Clinton to Address Housing in Next Week's Speech to the UN

International AIDS housing activists are on the verge of a major breakthrough, and we need your help to seal the deal!

We received word last week that a draft of a forthcoming UN Declaration on HIV/AIDS includes housing as part of an "effective global response to HIV." This groundbreaking step would boost activists' efforts to convince world governments to provide housing to the poor as part of a comprehensive strategy to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS.

The declaration will be released at the June 8 UN High Level Meeting on AIDS. Let our U.S. international representatives know that you support inclusion of housing in the declaration!

Call Secretary of State Clinton at the State Department at 202-647-4000 and ask for her comment line. Or email her with this message: "I support the inclusion of housing in Paragraph 55 of the forthcoming UN Declaration on AIDS. I urge you to address the urgent need for housing for people living with HIV/AIDS in your speech to the UN's High Level Meeting." (Select "U.S. Foreign Policy" on the "Topic" drop-down menu).

Call Ambassador Rice at the State Department at 202-647-4000 and ask for her comment line. Or email her with this message: "I support the inclusion of housing in Paragraph 55 of the forthcoming UN Declaration on AIDS. I urge you to strengthen world governments' commitment to housing by calling for an international assessment of the housing needs of people living with HIV/AIDS and a blueprint for addressing those needs."

Thank you for your support and please join us on June 8 at a rally at the UN to keep the pressure on world leaders to keep their promises to end the global AIDS epidemic!
