California: New Porn Set Rules to Be Discussed at Meeting

June 6, 2011

On Tuesday, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health will hold the last in a series of meetings on whether to enforce additional safety regulations on adult-film sets. Cal-OSHA officials say the porn industry must establish an effective plan to limit performers' exposure to blood-borne pathogens. The public meeting will offer a discussion of possible changes; there is no consensus on what those changes should be, said Deborah Gold, the division's senior safety engineer in research and standard health practices. "Right now, there's not a commitment to bring any kind of proposal forward by the [Los Angeles County Commission on HIV]. What we have put together is a discussion draft to take a look at regulatory language," she said. The meeting follows recent action on the issue by the Los Angeles City Council, which voted 10-0 to ask state and county officials to allow the city to make condom use mandatory on porn sets as a condition of receiving permit to film.
