Valery Hughes, R.N., M.S., FNP-BC

Valery Hughes, R.N., M.S., C.-F.N.P.

Valery Hughes, R.N., M.S., FNP-BC, is a Research Nurse Practitioner and Study Coordinator at the Cornell Trials Unit at the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Medical College at Cornell University in New York, N.Y. She holds a Master's degree from the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at Pace University, New York, N.Y. Prior to graduating from the Nurse Practitioner Program, Ms. Hughes graduated summa cum laude from the Lienhard School of Nursing at Pace University. She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Her main area of interest includes the full spectrum of care for people with HIV. Currently a great deal of the work she is doing is about HIV prevention.

Ms. Hughes has been active in the development and implementation of several protocols for the ACTG. She is involved in the ACTG's Site Management and Clinical Care Committee, and has served as the Vice-Chair and Chair of the Protocol Development and Implementation Subcommittee. She is the current Vice-Chair of the Training and Education Subcommittee.

Ms. Hughes serves as an AIDS Education and Training Center consultant for clinicians in the community and has lectured on the subject of Good Clinical Practice in Research for the Cornell Masters Program.

Other community health interests include development of a patient-controlled personal health record and smoking cessation.
