She's an "elite controller," i.e., her viral load has remained undetectable for years, even though she has never taken HIV medications. "Amazing Grace"
At the final event of the first-ever Grandmothers' Gathering, Canadian grandmothers led a rousing rendition of "Amazing Grace," with participation from the packed audience of over 300 grandmothers and their supporters. The Grandmothers' Gathering featured a series of workshops and events focused on building solidarity between grandmothers caring for children orphaned by AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa and their fellow grandmothers in Canada. The gathering was hosted by the Stephen Lewis Foundation right before the XVI International AIDS Conference in Toronto.

Soul Influence Septet
The Soul Influence a capella septet contributed to the festive and often musical atmosphere of the closing plenary of the Grandmothers' Gathering, The septet is made up of three young women and four young men from Zimbabwe, Kenya, Zambia and The Democratic Republic of Congo. Soul Influence's inspired singing resulted in dancing and fanfare from the gathered Canadian and African grandmothers.
