| Only a fraction of the women living with HIV are even aware that this international AIDS conference occurs every two years. But some women, like Susan Rodriguez, who has been living with HIV since 1995, have been active for a long time, making sure that women take charge of their health. A breast cancer survivor and mother of three children, she leads the New York-based group Sisterhood Mobilized for AIDS/HIV Research & Treatment (SMART).
