Only accredited journalists could gain entry to the media center. This included writers and editors from all the major news services, newspapers and television stations from around the world and, of course, reporters for AIDS organization newsletters. Most of the journalists didn't seem to leave the room much; the main plenary talks were carried on closed-circuit televisions located throughout the room, and reporters could watch the closing ceremonies from here as well. In this photo, journalists stand to watch Nelson Mandela's speech at the closing ceremony.
