Buenos dias, Mi hermano tiene sida y está hace 4 años con tratamiento. Mi pregunta pude que sea tonta pero agradecia mucho una respuesta. Tenemos los 2 el mismo grupo sanguíneo. Yo estoy casada y espero un niño. En tiempos leí algo sobre el benefício de una transfusión de la sangre del cordón umbilical... Es algo totalmente falso? Muchas gracias Marta

La sangre del cordon umbilical se emplea en ocasiones para hacer transplantes de medula ósea, especialmente en pacientes que tienen algún tipo de cancer de la sangre y que van a ser tratadas con quimioterapia. En la actualidad se evalua la utilidad del transplante de medulla osea en algunos casos especificos de pacientes infectados con el virus del SIDA, pero no es un tratamiento que se emplee de manera general, en ese sentido la sangre del cordon no creo que le vaya a ser útil (al menos no por ahora).

Su hermano tiene mucha suerte de tener una hermana como usted que se preocupa tanto por él.

Lo más importante del tratamiento es tomar de manera regular las medicinas antiretrovirals y ponerse en manos de un buen medico con experiencia en el manejo de pacientes con HIV.
