IDSA 2007 studies
      10/30/07 06:33 AM

DId you read the summaries of the IDSA 2007 studies - two that caught my eye were the prevalance of anal HPV in HIV+ women, more so than vaginal (cervical??) HPV and less likely to decrease. I wrote to the experts to ask what the affect of anal HPV is? cnacerous like cervical HPV?? Bernie, do you know?
The other study (while fairly small) looked at perimenopausal and menopausal women and the prevalance of ostroporosis and indications of heart diease while on HAART.
I need to go back and read the full study results but thought I would share the info with others who may want to read through them - share them with their gynocologists and ID doctors to make sure we are tracking important information.
I have never been checked for anal HPV altho I have cervical and have had two colposcopies - I will ask my gyn to check next time I have a pap. AND there are things we can do to help against osteoporosis - eat well, weight bearing exercise, etc. It may be worth getting a baseline bone density scan and monitor - do any of you do that???
I encourage you to at least read through the study topics and stay abreast of what new information is being produced. We all need to be active in our care.

Focus on your potential.
