Dealing with sleep disturbance
      09/15/07 06:01 AM

One of the ever-recurring themes of discussions about Efavirenz and Atripla seems to be the sleep disturbance and weird vivid dreams.

I just thought I would pass on some very simple strategies by which I have eliminated these side effects from my life.

The first and most important is that, at least twice a week, I try to make sure that I go to bed feeling physically exhausted from excercise. Not only does this result in a deep sleep without any awareness of my dreams, but also each time I do it I will get two or three successive nights of genuinely restorative sleep.

Backing this up - in case something should wake me up - I find that restricting my fluid intake for a few hours before I go to bed, and ensuring that I go to bed on an empty bladder, makes it easy for me to roll over and go straight back to sleep again.

The paradox is that, since starting to do this, I have been getting at least fifteen hours of extra sleep every week; yet actually spending much less time in bed, find it easier to get up in the morning and avoid that slightly hung over feeling that invariably seems to follow from an unsatisfactory night's sleep.

It don't promise that it will work for you, but it is healthy and it has to be worth a try.
