Firsthand from Santa Cruz Aids Project
      03/30/00 03:32 PM

Our Firsthand from Santa Cruz Aids Project recently did a panel
at a UCSC biology class. There were 4 of us on the panel. One of
us did a summary on each of us. "Here we have so&so, a former
prostitute/iv user, and here we have -me-, a straight woman who
had sex with her husband...." I felt excluded for a second. I
laughed at it for a second. But it's not funny. I was with a man
for 7 years (age 19 to 27). He was my first love, but I won't let
him be my last. I have taken the resources from SCAP (mentioned
above) and through hypnotherapy and support groups, divorced him
and learned to carry on. It has been a year & a half, and I am
still processing the anger. I used to say, in the late 80's, that
AIDS was God's gift to queers and drug users. Now I put my foot
in my mouth every day. And I chew it well.
