letting other friends in

i also wonder what experiences people are willing to share about how their friends and family have reacted. have you lost people close to you when they learned you're dating/involved with a person who is HIV+?

the [HIV+] man i'm seeing has told only a small/select circle of friends about his HIV status. he hasn't told his son or his mother. i feel like i'm entering a life encased in a shroud of secrecy.

i know disclosing is his decision not mine. but, i have never had a relationship that i couldn't be completely open about the stresses/issues i'm dealing with with my girlfriends. you know, sort of a "war council" like in the movie jungle fever. he has cautioned me against sharing this information with very many people, i think in an effort to protect me against the backlash. i have mixed feelings. i don't want people in my life who couldn't accept my life without judgement. i also feel like i'll be drawn away from the people i can't share openly with.

i'd just like to know what others have experienced. thanks for sharing.
