I lost my partner in Sept. 1997
      03/30/00 02:47 PM

I lost my partnerin sept. of 97. It was after two years of taking
care of him 24-7. Two days later, while I was at the
hospitalgetting my chemo, his parents came into our home, broke
into our bedroom, and started taking things. When I asked for
these items to be returned, all hell broke loose. Since there was
no will, the family stands to inheret our home, and they decided
that Ishould be thrown out. After getting the police involved,
they were told that they could not evict me,nor could they enter
the house without my consent. Everything went along fine, until
Iwent to visit my brother and his wife. while Iwas gone they
broke in again, and changed the locks so that i could not get
into the house to get my clothes, my checkbook, not even my tooth
brush. Icalled the police again, but they never showed up. His
parents are now saying that Iwas not his partner, just a
caregiver, nothing more, and that everything in the house belonged
to Mark, and now belongs to them. I have had to get an attorney,
and have to sue them to get my personal possesions back, not to
mention anything that we accumulated over the last eight years,
and the things my mother left to me hwen she passed away ten
years ago. Inclosing, please remember, no matter how well you get
allong with his parents you`re still not family, nor are you
protected from the greed of others. make sure that both of you
have a will, and advance directives drawn up and legalized. It`s
for your protection and his. Thank you for letting me get this
off my mind
