Smoking Cessation & HIV
      04/23/08 08:03 PM

Did you know..

People with HIV have higher smoking rates than the general population?

People with HIV who smoke are more likely to have HIV medical complications, such as:
*bacterial pneumonia
*HIV related pulmonary emphysema
* hairy leukoplakia
*oral candidiasis
*AIDS dementia

Smoking cessation is highly recemmended for people with HIV, particularly if t cell count is below 200.

There are plenty of resources out there to help you (or your partner, friend,) quit..

Smokefree.gov
Smokefree.gov offers science-driven tools, information, and support that has been effective in helping other smokers quit. Here, you will find state and national resources, free materials, and quitting advice from the National Cancer Institute and its partners. (http://smokefree.gov/)

iQuit: A Quit smoking program for LGBT smokers
Do you want to quit smoking? Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco are looking for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender smokers to take part in a free internet-based smoking treatment program. For more information, visit:
