Financial concerns with one partner disabled

I have recently became the head of household with my husband becoming ill and going on social security. I took another rather demanding job, and am still having trouble making ends meet. My partner wants to do alot of things that cost money, like travel, buy a new flat screen tv. I don't want to be selfish, I am negative, he is pos, he is really into material things, I am more concerned with having a small nest egg to fall back on. He seems to get angry when I tell him we just can't afford those things. Car repairs are eating my lunch, he just doesn't seem to be on the same page as me.

Does anyone else have these differences and how to resolve them?
