My boyfriend has recently (within the last week) tested HIV+. We have not been intimate in the course of our relationship, so I doubt I have contracted it from him, but I'm going to be tested as soon as possible.
I love this man, and we'd been talking about marriage and children prior to the results. He's a wonderful man who contracted this from his job in the healthcare field.
He has decided to take a few days alone to think and study so that he can figure out what to do next. He has asked me to do the same. He has also told me that if I wanted to leave him, he would understand and wouldn't hold it against me.
At this point, I can't imagine my life without him. He's been on his little trip for about 24 hours now and I'm missing him like crazy.
I'm trying to arm myself with as much information as possible. I've come to the conclusion that I want to see what happens. It looks like, from the boards, that it is completely possible to have a healthy, fulfilling sero-discordant relationship.
What I'd like to know is, if you're in a heterosexual sero-discordant relationship or marriage, how is it going? How did you tell others, especially your families? I'm thinking my parents are going to think I'm insane for even considering a future with this man. I think I'd be crazy to consider a future without him.
