Allergy doc appointment
      08/21/13 01:53 AM

Today I met with my allergy dr to bring him up to speed on me testing pos, current treatments, etc. I get monthly venom injection due to bee, wasp, yellow jacket allergies. I found the exchange rather interesting as in the past they basically had always told me I would on these shots for life, today it was almost a 180 feeling. He wanted to test me again to see if they could stop the shots. I had already spoke with my infectious disease specialist and primary and neither saw a problem with continuing shots. The weirdest part was him saying he would have to inform the nurses so they could take special precautions when giving the being an EMT for 10 years we were always trained to take precautions no matter what. The needle better be sterile, I have my own vials that they keep, and a used needle is never put back in the vial to redraw (rubber stopper dulls the needle), the nurse giving the shot should be wearing gloves and all sharps should be disposed of promptly and properly. Just wondering what "special precautions" he was referring to. Maybe I am reading to much into it.

Anyone else out there getting allergy shots (venom or allergen)? He also stated if it was regular allergy shots he would discontinue them right away.
