Welcome to the neighborhood!! For most, if not all of us who have been diagnosed poz, we had the same feeling. The truth is, no one knows you're poz, unless you've told them!! It doesn't sound like that's happened, yet.

Being newly diagnosed brings about a volume of thoughts and feelings including those you mentioned; because of fear, mainly of the unknown. So start to minimize/eradicate your fears. Start to learn about living successfully with HIV.

Check out Nelson Vergel's and Michael Mooney's book "Built to Survive". It has lots of good information about poz living. Be sure you have a solid relationship with you medical treatment provider. Don't hesitate to ask for a mental health referral from your provider. HIV is not something you should deal with by yourself, especially if you're newly diagnosed.

As for making friends, make them. None of them has to know you're poz unless you want to tell them. Get in contact with an AIDS service organization in your area (check out http://directory.poz.com); they probably have some activities and groups where you can meet others who are poz and are dealing with (or have dealt with) some of the issues you're facing right now. There are lots of poz people around you; allow yourself to be near and involved with them. If it gets to be too much, you can always take a step back and regroup.

Find and get involved in some local groups in which you might have some interest - skiing, hiking, photography, or scuba diving clubs, to name a few.

Stay healthy both physically and mentally; both go a very long way when it comes to being poz.

As for telling your current friends about being poz, the choice is totally up to you. Do you know how any of them might respond? If it's a negative, it might be worthwhile to re-evaluate the friendship.

Above all, do what is best for you - to yourself and for yourself - not your friends. And accept nothing less from others.

No one can know you're poz unless you tell them - not your treatment provider or therapist or pharmacist - you. And if you choose to have sex with someone, you do have to tell them beforehand.

Whatever you do, start living!! Merely existing with HIV is much more difficult than living with HIV!! Go, be and do that which you wish and choose to do, as long as it bring harm to no one, including yourself.

Live and be well!!
