Shari, thanks for your post. My best friend at work and the only person I've shared my HIV status with found out last month that she was infected with Hep C. Luckily for her, no HIV. they estimate she has had it for 30 years and got it from a blood transfusion in the late 80s. She has had minor ongoing health problems for years but no one thought to test for Hep C. Some of the issues they face are similar to what HIVers face. Yet it seems like there is much less support for them and fewer options in many cases. My friend has become a champion for getting tested for Hep C and becasue of her about 1/2 of the adults in our school have gotten tested. The statistics you quote are scary and I think so true. Hep C and HIV testing should be readily available for all and there should be a process to encourage individuals to get tested. We have to get past the stigma of these diseases or else they will contnue to spread becuase of fear of testing. They say the bulk of new HIV cases come as a result of individuals who are poz and don't know it. I'm sure the same can be said of Hep C.

Thanks again for the post.
