Rick, In Nov of 1994 during a routine exam I had a 'Indeterminate' result on the ELISA and Western Blot. A follow up PCR test showed a 'negative' result. Since then I have had ELISA and Western Blot tests annually. The ELISA went negative within 6 months. The Western Blot never went negative but continued to show decreasing bands. Two Weeks ago I was tested again using ELISA and PCR, or a Viral Load test. The ELISA was negative yet the Viral Load indicated I was HIV+ with a result of 620 'units'. My current doctor, a Internal Medicine guy tells me that I may be unique in the fact that I have been exposed to the HIV virus but have fought off the antigen using my natural body defenses. The Doc says there have been at least three documented cases of other individuals who have had similar situations and, that there is an Identified DNA pattern among them that is different from everyone else. I would like to know what you may know about this natural resistance to HIV and how I might learn more about it.I would also like to know if there is a known 'False Positive' percent for the PCR or Viral Load test. Any other info you may have or refer me to would be greatly appreciated. Other Info: I am a 40 year old gay man who did have unsafe sex 2 times prior to November of 1994. I have no past or present health problems and am currently in a monogamous relationship since April of 1995. My partner has recently tested negative.
