What makes you think those two organizations have differing views?

Since November the CDC has recommended testing at least 3 months after exposure for a conclusive test. The only time they recommend a 6 month test is when a person had a definiate exposure with a person known to be HIV and the provider/client is still concerned after a 3 month test.

And when I say 'definate exposure with a person known to be HIV'. I mean just that. Not someone you think might, maybe, could be HIV positive.

My guess is that you got the 6 month from the CDC hotline. Remember the people that answer the phone are just reading from scripts. I don't believe that many of them have a real understanding about the disease. You get someone that answers the phone and they just skimmed the script and saw 6 months, but didn't bother to really read under what circumstances, or maybe the person answering your call doesn't agree with the 3 month stance. I've heard of people calling the hotlines and getting 3 different answers on 3 different calls. You are much better off just checking out their website to get their window guidelines.
