The best advise - Please read and listen
      03/31/13 04:48 AM

OK, where to begin. In December 2012 I did something silly. I had intercourse with an escort. I say, "silly" because I am (was) married with a loving spouse. Well, exactly 8 - 10 days after the event I came down with the following symptoms.

Severe flu which included:
- Bad Dry Cough
- Extreme Fatigue (4 days)
- Congested nasal passage
- Severe diarrhoea
- Really bad aches and pains all over my body

Well, as you can imagine every alarm bell in my head went off. What followed has cost me my marriage and left me in a very bad place. I was CONVINCED I had contracted HIV. I spent countless days, weeks and months researching the web continuously convincing myself that I was infected. I wasted a lot of peoples valuable time by phoning help lines, posting on web sites and continuously visiting my GP. Everyone told me that my symptoms were probably just an opportunistic infection (it is winter after all) and that my possible exposure was very low risk. Still I did not listen!! I just went on and on. I continuously complained to my wife that I was sick!! literally driving her insane!!

Well to cut a very long story short and not to bore you with all the personal details. I tested at 4 weeks - Negative then again at 3 months - Negative. Now for my bit of advise. There is only one way to know if you are infected - its called a BLOOD TEST! No amount of personal research on Google is ever going to tell you if you are infected. If you are worried get a test, speak to a health care professional and trust what they tell you! and try, try and relax. Please don't make the same mistake that I did and drive yourself and your loved ones insane.

Now, I know that all you, "worried wells" will continue to worry and continue to alarmed but please please if it means anything just get a test and relax. Trust what professionals are telling you and please please please STAY away from Google! Its not going to tell you anything...

Stay safe! Always wear/use protection......
