Most STD's show symptoms within a month or so after infection. However, not all STD's have symptoms associated with them. This is why it's important to have a doctor perform the necessary tests. Chlamydia and gonorrhea can be diagnosed easily with a culture, whereas syphilis and Hepatitis C must be detected via a blood test.

Keep in mind that in the case of something like HPV (the virus that causes genital warts), the warts may not appear for years after infection although you still carry the virus. Occasionally warts are microscopic, so you may not even see them. An easy home test for warts: soak a cotton ball in white table vinegar and rub it over your genitals. Any warts you have will turn white. Of course, if you do have warts, it's best to see a doctor for treatment.

If you are concerned about any diseases, have your doctor test you. As an example, Hepatitis C often does not show any symptoms until severe liver damage has been done, so it's best to get screened early on. In all cases, early detection is key so that proper treatment can be given. Good luck :)
