look buddy, these studies that quote risk are based on actual serodiscordant couples, where one had HIV and one did not, who engaged in repeated acts of unprotected sex. the dizzying amount of unprotected sexual acts going on each day in our country and around the world account for the widespread transmission, not the high virulence of the HIV virus. its like playing russian roulette. some people get the bullet on the first pull of the trigger, most don't. none of these studies are advocating unprotected sex, they are just relaying the exact numbers they got from their studies.
Let me ask you a question buddy! Was the researcher sitting there whilst these couples "Got it on".

Since I contracted (SO FAR) two diseases in one risk, one being perhaps far less common than HIV (although apparently much more transmissable...not sure I believe this since it enters the body via the same mechanism, (mucosal) its only advantage is it appears to survive a little longer out of the body).

I have read and read and read, and exchanged emails with quite a few people who have contracted HIV. ALL of them contracted from either a single mistake or a very limited number of possible exposures. Not one has come forward to me and said "I had to shag my partner a 1000 times before I got infected" So tell me how does that correlate with these "Studies"? Where are these people that record their sex life for clinicians?

I know these clinicians are trying to help, and that the results of their efforts are not designed to encourage risky behaviour. But the effects of their messages on peoples education needs to be considered as part of the problem, not part of the cure. Once again! I have spoken to a number of individuals, including professionals and those taking their advice, that feel that the studies are sending out all the wrong messages, they certainly did to me, and a number of people I have spoken too.
It seems that the ignorance about the disease itself is compounded by the ignorance of those studying its spread.
