I was diagnosed in 1999 @ 8 months pregnant.
I was seperated from my husband for a year and was living with my (then) boyfriend.
He already had 2 children from 2 previous relationships.
Nieve as I was,assumed that made him "safe".
We broke up and I reconciled with my husband,later to find out I was pregnant,then 8 months later....HIV POS..
I told the ex-boyfriend(father of my child)that I was HIV POS..
To my surprise,he wasn't surprised...at all,but wouldn't admit to being POS. himself.
I know it was him that gave it to me..I was tested when I got married and had been with noone else until him.
My husband(now EX)is NEG..
Within 6 wks. of being with the (then)boyfriend,I was striken with what I thought then to be a really bad flu or something...It put me down hard!
A few months later,I had SHINGLES...had no idea what it was at first,hadn't even heard of it before then.
The emergency room doc told me about the shingles and the most likely candidates for it(HIV POS. & the elderly),but assured me not to worry about it...gave me a script and sent me home.
A few months later I was pregnant.Then diagnosed at a routine OB visit.
That was 11+ yrs. ago....I am healthy and my son was born NEG. for the disease.
I have since had another child also NEG. for the disease.
I don't plan for any more children..I am recently divorced and happy.
I was placed on COMBIVIR & VIRAMUNE from the start & they served me well all this time.
I hit a bump in the road after my divorce...I moved out of state and there was a gap in my medical treatment....I was without meds. for 4 months.The new doc suggested ATRIPLA since I had been without the other and it would be a one-dose-daily thing.I took it for a time,but was not pleased with it.
I am and have been undetectable since the birth of my 1st child.
As for the ex-boyfriend....he's still out there somewhere spreading it to others.
I don't and never did blame him though...I was responsible for me and should have been safe.
It's an unfortunate thing,but you pick yourself up,brush yourself off and keep going.
