Hi ladies, I'm just wondering how/when you were diagnosed. I'm struggling to get tested even though I know the truth. It would be truly amazing to hear your stories. Thank you! -L

I knew I was pos long before I was tested . And I waited a few years still before starting meds. But I was at a point where it was time. And now it's been 18 years on meds and if wasn't for having to take the pills I would never gues I wa so called " sick ". I could go on and on but to take up alot of space here would be inconsiderate. So if you would like to know more please pm me . I will gladly share more of my story. We alll have a story to tell. But I prefere to live in the present.

HI! I was diagnosed this October...I ended up in the hospital with a community pneumonia and a doctor noticed I had lymph nodes swollen in three different areas; mind you I have been in and out of doctors offices for the past two years trying to see why my body hurt and I was then diagnosed with having fibromyalgia....FInding out my diagnosis was a total shock because having HIV was the last thing on my mind...As of lately I am finding myself positive but so sad at the same time as Im sure most are fiinding something like this out but I am in a nice place with it because of the treatments available and the nurses stated I many not even need medication at this time in my diagnosis...My cd4 is 951 and I have not yet received my viral load etc results; those come in at my next appt on nov 3rd...Does anyone have any encouraging words? The wait is kind of killing me and I am positive at the same time that my results will be low

I'm sooo sorry that we have to meet here but I must say that if someone is pos this is a good place for support and encouragement. I understand that your t-cells are a good number but haven't recieved your vl. I have been on meds for 18 years now. And the meds today are sooo much more body friendly . And the reason I'm telling you this is that no matter what your vl is it is medically suggested that one should start meds. The reason being that the sooner the better because the virus won't have the time to cause inflamation to any organs. and to take meds is really no big deal. I f I could pick my time for becoming infected it would be at this stage of not only science but I would get on meds at the slightest hint of viral load. Talk to you doctor about this and see what he/ she feels. This info I got from one of the top ID doctors out of Jersey Shore Medical Center in NJ.
Also if either of you ladies need someone to talk to feel free to pm me. I talk to quite a few people and somehow or other it seems to help.

Get tested. The initial shock is rough, but since you are posting here, you have some idea of the possible outcome. At least you aren't going to be blindsided like many. The fear of not knowing is horrible, once you know, then you deal with the outcome step by step. If you are negative, start practicing safe sex everytime. I was diagnosed in 1999 a week after learning I was pregnant. Today, I'm healthy and happy. I don't allow a virus to define me.

Hi, I almost had to force the county health nurse to test me. I answered the screening questions with no's, and she told me she didn't think I needed the test since I didn't have risk factors. I went for testing because I had found out info about my ex-husband and wanted piece of mind.

She tested me (blood draw) and told me she would call in 2 weeks. Two weeks passed, no call. Three weeks passed, I called. She wasn't in. I called the next week and she said she needed to come to my house to talk to me in person. Well, I knew what that meant!

Since I lived in a rural area with no immuno-specialists, I commuted an hour to clinic and aso. After a few months, I decided to move to the larger city to be closer to services.

email me if you want to chat about this.

I tested poz in 1987 while doing my physical to enter the Air Force. I am healthy and most importantly happy.

If you think you already know, get tested so that you can take care of yourself.
