Just got back home, VL & CD4
      #271790 - 04/23/13 08:57 PM

I just got back home from my Dr. appoinment with my new Dr. My viral load is 163 and my CD4 is 644. To others that would seem to be good news, but not to me. Since I don't feel any differently that my are numbers are "good' then why am I on treatment? I keeping thinking every time I do something different I feel better or at least better about the disease.
Also today at my appointment I was informed I may have KS, I have to be referred to a GI specialist and my meds are being switched. Last week I had a psych evaluation and I'm at risk for being bipolar.
When does the whole "living a normal life" begins?

Acceptance comes when one begins to see situations not as lofe obstacles to accomplishments , but to achieve living one must first deal with ones attitude. Seems like your looking for a big bang of a goal . Try seeing the smaller positiness in you life. And the more you focus on that they less neg you'll be looking at . AND THEN......when you look back in months or years to come , you will see the GREAT progress all this seemingly small accomplishments add up to . I hope this makes sense to you . It truly is a life turning in the road to wellness. Pm if you want to talk more

Trav, treatment is recommended for the rest of a persons life once they start, to maintain a healthy life. The word "undetectable" is one my Doctor likes to use alot, it is when the meds surpress the HIV virus to an extreme low that won't cause problems, illnesses that sort of thing. The medication is to get the HIV to that state and hold it there. That is why it is recommended once you start, stay on treatment. It's not going to be a fix all for everything, this is with you now for life, this is yours, HIV, you can share it which would be highly irresponsible on your part, but the big thing is to just make it aprt of your life now, and if treatment your feeling good, great, you won't feel different. Sure some meds are suppose to have side-effects, but that's different to each person taking them.
You are living a normal life, just that it's YOUR normal life. You need to make the most of it, you need to set out some life plans, goals and ambitions and let your HIV just tag along for the ride. If your bipolar, add another pill to the daily ritual. You can make it the end of your world, or you take what is being given to you, work it into your world and live your life, not letting IT live your life for you!
In short this is your call, your life, your HIV, your bipolar ... just make your life plan and start doing it. Crap or get off the pot!

When diagnosed I thought it was the end of the world. 18 months later and I'm undetectable... I have my first serious, significant romantic relationship I've had in years (and it's with someone who is HIV-)... & I think my only health problem has been one cold! There's a lot to fear... but day to day, it's not a big deal. Take your medicine, take care of yourself, focus on the things you care about, don't think about the disease every day, and use condoms... and life is normal.
