STD or HIV?
      #171899 - 01/27/06 01:48 AM

Guys,

Symptoms:

night sweats, non-tender swelling under armpits (both) and at the back of neck. palm always feel like numb and feel that my palm ligaments are hardening. my biceps are aching. I notice that when i am in a cold area/room, my palms start to be in pain. Had rashes and it went off. cough especially at night and my doc says that my lungs are clear. few months ago, my skin at the back of the penis was slighlty itchy and there was a slight burning sensation. I put some sort of a cream for a couple of days and it went off. Exposure in July 2005 to be safe. My question, is there any type of STD with this kind of symptoms. Sometimes i would just sweat like hell at no particular time with headache and short of breath. After i take a short rest than i would feel better and it will go away. I really hope it is a normal std and not HIV.....thats'y i am asking what do u all think! My PA test is not out....feeling a lot of anxiety and having dreams that i do have HIV.

Bura,

If you go to these websites, you can tick off nearly all of your symptoms as being due to stress and anxiety.

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003211.htm

http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/mosby_factsheets/anxiety.html

http://www.healthyplace.com/communities/depression/related/depression_anxiety_2.asp

Try spending some time finding out how much stress can screw up your body. That would be more productive for you than looking for HIV information, I am sure.

Now let me introduce you to a philosophical concept. It is called Occam's Razor. Basically, what it says is that the simpliest explanation is nearly always true and, if you need to add complexity to an answer in order to make it fit the facts, then that answer gets less and less likely to be correct, the more twists and turns it makes. You can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam's_Razor (and yes, Occam also has the great of being English!).

Applied to your situation we have a lot of symptoms that can be explained by your anxiety (which we know for sure you have) and perhaps some others that are vague and definately non-specific (which could indeed also be related to stress since it is known that anxious people are more prone to infection). We also have you testing negative already out to 6 months which is, in everybody's book, undoubtedly conclusive.

The conclusion is simple. You do not have HIV. You do have a severe case of anxiety.

Promise me something will you? When your PA test comes back negative, which it will, and if you have any problem at all accepting it as final, stop going to doctors and start going to a mental health professional. Take copies of your test results and the advice you have recieved here about the fact that these results are conclusive.

Bura,

Good stuff! That is the attitude! Now all you have to do is wait a little while and collect that negative.

God bless!

hi

regards from india

For evaluation of your symptoms you need to get them evaluated from your healthcare provider, however from what you describe i doubt they are symptoms of STD/STD'S.

Trust me specualting your status based on presence of symptoms leads to nowehere, if you feel worried get tested!

Goodluck

it is not that i wan to be sick or something, sometimes it is the fear that gets to my head. I am paranoid about this kinda stuff, and furthermore i am afraid that i did infect my fiance. If i get infected myself, it is allrite, but if i did infect her...sigh.....i let down a lot of people who trusted me with their daughter.
