Unmet needs
      #239801 - 06/09/08 07:47 AM

Hello,

We are students at a local college in the Masters of
Occupational Therapy program. Currently, we are working on a project that will address an unmet need of individuals with HIV/AIDS who are receiving services from a community agency. Once a need is identified, our intent is to create an occupational therapy program to address this need, but will not actually implement it.

We are aware that yes, life is busy, so please answer
the following questions if time permits. And then if you are
interested in our project further we would like to know!

1. In the literature we have been reading about unmet needs within areas such as independent living transitions, accessible transportation to services, stigma, employment opportunities, substance abuse and mental illness. What is one or two areas that you feel presents the most problems to an individual living with an HIV/AIDS diagnosis?

2. And for individuals providing services at an HIV/AIDS community organization, What is an unmet need of those who provide services within your organization?

Once again thank you for your time!
Sincerely, Kerry, Jen, and Brenda

1.) Unmet needs - living in a small rural community where everyone knows everyone. Privacy is difficult and have to travel long distance for medical treatment. Counseling is limited and financial assistance is not available for paying for medical bills and prescriptions.
