Kiss of death?
      #79342 - 12/20/03 02:55 AM

Recently I french kissed an HIV+ guy for a long time ( I didn't know he was positive). I am really worried now, because I have a bad habit of chewing on the inside of my cheeks (I know, disgusting) and they bleed. We watched a movie (2 hours) before he came onto me and we started kissing. I wasn't chewing my cheeks at the time, so I am hoping that I didn't have any "fresh" open wounds on my cheeks. How long would a small open sore inside of the mouth take to coagulate? I am so worried. I don't remember tasting his blood and he told me that his gums and mouth are in good health. Should I get tested? Thanks.

Hi there. My suggestion is that you talk to a doctor or other health care professional about your situation. Nobody here on the board, or anywhere else, can know the extent of your mouth sores, the severity of the guy's illness, etc. The fact that you are here asking causes me to think that you should talk to a doctor or expert to set your mind at ease.

There is an "Ask The Experts" forum at www.thebody.com. That is a good place to ask your question, but I still think you should talk to your own doctor, to be safe.

As far as I know, there has only been one documented case of HIV transmission from open mouth kissing. I think both partners had open wounds in their mouths, although I don't know how "recent" the wounds were. **Also, please remember that this forum is just a bunch of women who happen to be affected by or infected with HIV. We are not medical experts.

Best of luck.

THERE IS NO RISK IN KISSING. HIV IS NOT FOUND IN SALIVA. UNLESS YOU SWAP BLOOD WITH THAT PERSON THE RISK IS NONEXISTENT.

There is no such thing as "NO RISK" when you're dealing with this virus. Normally, the saliva in a person's mouth can kill any virus in the partner's blood. But if he had just brushed his teeth, and his gums were bleeding, who knows? The risk is EXTREMELY LOW, but it depends on a lot of factors.
