The Body, Fall 2002: Women not going for treatment soon enough is a reason why Aids is rising in women in U.S.A. Don't know how much this rise is. You can read article by typing in "HIV and women fall 2002". Click on "Step Perspective, hiv in women".

It's also because women with HIV are diagnosed later. They don't know they are at risk. They get it from a cheating or bisexual husband or something. Also they are poor--in the black or hispanic community. And then it's hard for them stay on treatment because they have kids to take care of. and everyone comes before them--their husband, their kids. No one takes care of women. IT's really terrible but it's getting better. There are lots of doctors who specialize in women with HIV and realize the kind of support they need.

Actual figures from the Calif. Dept. of Health web site
Year 2000 Male AIDS cases down 26% Year 2000 Female AIDS cases down 56%
Year 2001 Male AIDS cases down 26% Year 2001 Female AIDS cases down 58%
Total drop since 1995 = 92.5% Total cases in Calif. 2001 = 586
Clearly female AIDS not increasing.

yes several reasons for late diagnosis, one is because doctors have told some women they do not have aids, so we don't get tested and continue to suffer with minor symptoms and deep down we still know we should be tested, and when we finally do, the doctor is long gone who told us don't have Aids.
