You DON"T have to get an abortion if you think you have enough money and support to raise a child! You MUST however immediately find an HIV specialist who has experience dealing with pregnant women. If you live in a big city this will be pretty easy, just call the LARGEST AIDS organization there and ask for the HIV-Positive women's department and they'll be able to give you a referral.
Do this immediately!!! Go to http://www.thebody.com/hotlines/other.html to find an organization near you...or talk to other women with HIV who had babies at women alive 800-554-4876 or WORLD 510-986-0340. They are both in Calif.

You can also call the CDC 24/7 and ask them for the largest AIDS org. in your area: (800-342-2437)

Where do you live? Maybe I know a good doctor.

You really should call women alive or and talk to other women...and read stuff on this site. You got to get to know about this subject and not just depend on your doctors!
The best doctor for women in LA is probably Dr. Currier:
If you can get an appointment with her, she's an expert in women with HIV who are pregnant.
Judith Currier, MD
UCLA Care Center
BH 412 CHS, 10833 Le Conte Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90095
Phone: 310-206-6415
If it's hard to get an appointment with currier, try:
Michele Benton, MD
AIDS Healthcare Foundation
1414 Grand Suite 400
Los Angeles, CA 90015 Phone: 213-741-9726

Or
Christine Klasen, M.D.
LAC USC Medical Center
1300 North Mission
Los Angeles, CA 90033
Phone: (323) 343-8255

All these women are HIV specialists with years of experience. Be careful and do not ever go to someone who is not a specialist...if these doctors don't work out or something call APLA (where you should become a client) and get other referrals from them: To get more information on APLA services and events for women call (213) 201-1600 ext. 1223 Also call women alive which is in LA. They can help and you should talk to other women who are also positive so you don't feel isolated. A lot of women get isolated while men reach out and go to groups and get good medical care!

Good luck! Call currier! She's great!

BJ

Abortion? Why? if you do all the right things the chances of having a HIVpositive baby is now only 1 - 2%!

Call Terri Sayma she is a social worker at UCLA and helps pregnant women with HIV 310-206-6369

or if LAC-USC is closer call their Maternal Child center and speak to Martha Castaneda she's a social worker too.
