I found out in April that I have "pre-cancerous" cells on my cervix (after my doctor found HPV on my cervix in Feb). I've been waiting to have the procedure done & now its scheduled for July. As luck would have it, my ins is changing, so I may have to wait even longer because my doctor will need a new authorization. Has anyone had a similar circumstance? I'm scared that this could turn into cervical cancer while I'm awaiting the procedure. Any info would be greatly appreciated! The more I think about it, the more scared I get & my OB/GYN has already stated that she doesn't know much about HIV. My HIV doctor doesn't seem too concerned. Should I be pushing this issue to get the procedure done quicker?

Go to planned parenthood...there's one in every city and it's sliding scale...even free.

I think in your shoes I would call the doctor who found them and scheduled the procedure and ask him about the wait and the possible consequences thereof. I was diagnosed w/pre-cancerous cells after diagnosis w/HIV during my first post-HIV diagnosis pap smear. They then did the procedure where they freeze the cervix to get the bad cells. It was four months between diagnosis and the actual procedure and all went well. I am now one year post procedure and my consequetive paps (every three months) have been completely normal.
So, I hope this eases your mind a bit, however I would suggest you immediately leave word with the doctor to ask his advice....to make sure that an additional wait won't adversely affect you!
Good luck and please let me know how it all turns out.

Thank you very much for your input! I have the procedure scheduled for June 13, so it's not too far off at this point. Its just nice to hear from someone who's been there. My doctor is doing the procedure where they use an instrument that has a wire at the end w/an electric charge running through it. They also have water running through the instrument which actually cuts the spots off of the cervix. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again! Teddi
