Hiv + & pregnant
      #31112 - 04/02/02 07:13 PM

I have recently found out that I am pregnant. I am on meds (Viracept, Epivar & Zerit) which have been an absolute blessing. Viral load has been undetectable for years and CD4 is above 1100. I have been pos. since 1994. Since the pregnancy I have had severe iching on my scalp & legs. I am wondering if that is related to the meds or just being pregnant. Has anyone experienced that? I am so incredibly scared about the next 7 mos! I have always maintained a positive attitude about life but right now I am full of fear. I really need support from other women who have been through this. The support in my hometown is minimal. Any encouraging words or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi

Probably you should talk to other women who are hiv positive!
You can call a great Calif group called women alive and just talk for free annoymously with other women living with HIV.Women Alive National Hotline (Spanish speakers available): 800-554-4876 and also WORLD (peer counseling for HIV-positive women): 510-986-0340 (Rebecca Denison who works at World had negative twins a few years ago.

YOu'll see that there is no reason to feel alone! There are so many places you can go or call to feel supported. Take the chance. Really these places are confidential!! And these calls are confidential! Too many women do NOT reach out and get help!

Remember you deserve the BEST!

Also you may have to try a few resources until you find something that works for you.

Good luck!
C.L.

The itching more than likely is due to being pregnant. I remember dealing with it both times. I remember my mother telling me that she itched so bad when she was pregnant with me that the doctor put her in the hospital for a few days to get it under control and so she could get some rest.

I wasn't HIV when I was pregnant. With your viral load and CD4 count you have an excellent chance of having a healthy baby. Just make sure you keep up really good medical care through this.

As far as the fear thing. While you have additional things to worry about, I don't think that there is a woman that has been pregnant that hasn't worried about the baby. I guess it's that maternal instinct kicking in.

God Bless you and have a healthy baby. There lots of women having healthy babies nowadays, but always remember to give your concerns to JESUS, and he will protect your baby. He alone can heal all your diseases, I'll remember you in my prayers. I'm also hoping to conceive some time in the coming future.
