Pregnancy & HIV Tests
      #28571 - 02/20/02 03:28 PM

I've heard that pregnancy can cause a false positive HIV result. Is that true? I'm pregnant, and i was tested a little over 3 months since my last unprotected sexual encounter. The result was negative. Should I test again or is 3 months good enough as the NY Health Dept. says? Could pregnancy cause a false negative?

Yes it can. However so could other conditions. They say that if you follow up with western blot that is accurate. All positive tests are tested again with western blot just to be sure.
