I had a total hysterectomy (uterus, tubes and cervix) 10 years ago. At the time I had been HIV+ for over 12 years and had an AIDS diagnosis. I did well my ovaries bounced back so no hormones needed and I healed fine. The worst part was I had to have it done abdominally and I became constipated and was in a great deal of pain from that for the first few days. I think it would depend on your health, age and reason for getting it just like anything else. I was very young (in my late 20s) so I think that helped. As far as now I love passing up the tampon isle =) I can say for me it was a great thing to have done.

I just had a hysterectomy a couple of months ago and it really went well. I had a vaginal one and they left my ovaries. The procedure took a couple of hours and then I spent two nights at the hospital and went home. I actually felt just fine after resting for 2 days at home. Are there any specific questions you have about it? If so, please feel free to ask me. I'm 41 and I have one child and I was diagnosed with aids in 2002 and I weigh 265 pounds. .
