Do they screen pregnant woman for hiv

Hello,
i don't know what to do . My ex husband has hiv and got his girlfriend pregnant. He told me he was being careful and I just tried to stay out of their lives. Well, now she is pregnant and DOES NOT know his status...... He won't tell her either. I am worried about the baby. Will they screen her for hiv? What if they screen her for hiv and she is negative but gets it later in pregnancy. How many times do they test her in a pregnancy. I am afraid to tell her since he has threatened my life and safety and we have kids together. I am so worried....

I don't believe it is a mandatory test. More and more doctors are testing for it, in the first battery of tests, but there is nothing that forces a woman to test.

I was screened when I was pregnant. At the doctor's office I went to it was a mandatory test however being a nurse I can tell you that all doctor's office's aren't the same. Not all doc. offices test for HIV when becoming pregnant however screens for STDs are becoming more wide spread during pregnacy since most can cause complication during normal birth. As to whether to tell her I say yes and inform local police about the threats if you must. We are talking about the safety of a woman and her child for christ sakes. How would you feel if you found out that she as well as her child had HIV and you did nothing to warn or help. I think if you would look deep inside and ask yourself if you would want her to tell u if the situation was reversed I think you know what you have to do. No I understand that it isn't an easy thing however most things are hard that are related to this matter. Call Anonymously from a pay phone and think and plan what you are going to say. Get a friend to call if the other woman knows your voice. Do something since you are aware of the situation that she is in as well as the unborn baby to help. There are meds. now than can provent the mother if she is positive from passing it on to the baby. So listen to your heart and good luck.

In most states they do routinely screen for all STD's including HIV during pregnancy,that is when and how I found out I had HIV. I was misinformed by my then partner,and he swore as long as he pulled out,I wouldn't become infected.I was in love and nieve, and as soon as I said I was pregnant-he was gone.

It's not mandatory for pregnant women. But many states test all newborn babies and in that way they are testing the woman. NY state for instance tests every newborn baby.

First of all this Women and her fetus deserve the right to be told about your husbands status.
Yes, in most states they do test for HIV. However if she test negative early on they may not retest.
Pregnant women have a 31% chance or higher of passing the virus onto thier child. Through medications this % dramatically drops to about 3%. This is a HUGE differenece

I agree, you should tell her! She deserves to know! That is how I found out I was HIV + too. That was over 7 years ago. In TX it is mandatory to test!
Threaten to involved the authorities if he threatens you. He's probably all talk. Just do not want you bust up his game.
My ex rushed into a marriage still in denial. I told the lady she probably had HIV and should check herself out. She may have blew over as a jealous ex, but the way he is looking and all the problems he is havingk it's got to be in the back of her mind. I did my part, I told her, what she does from that point is totally up to her.

Hello,
YOU simply MUST tell her. You must because of the baby!!! Think about this innocent still unborn. IF she is + the baby have a very good chance of being born healthy if she gets treatment during the pregnancy. And after the baby is born the baby will also get meds for the first 6 weeks. PLEASE you MUST tell her. I was pregnant and found out and got treatment my baby is now healthy thank god!
