Baby question
      #18032 - 05/27/01 12:48 AM

My husband and I are thinking of having a baby, we are both hiv postive. We were recently told that we could make each other sicker by having unprotected sex, that we could each have a different hiv strain and pass it on to one another. I was wondering if there are any other women out there who have had a child with there hiv poz spouse and what there outcome was. If the baby was heathly, if they (both husband and wife) remained healthy and any other information that would be helpful. We are really looking forward to children but my husband is scared to touch me for fear of making me sicker, would love some info.

Thank you!

If you want to limit the amount of unprotected sex you have then get a ovulation test in the pharmacy and only have unprotected sex when you ovulate, you can lower your risk. Also read http://www.thebody.com/whatis/women_pregnancy.html

Lots of HIV positive people are having babies now. Call the largest city near you and call the largest AIDS organization there and ask to speak to a caseworker who deals with women. Then ask her to refer you to an HIV specialist who has dealt with HIV positive women who are or want to be pregnant.

This notion that you could reinfect each other has NEVER been proven--the only danger is if he has resistance to some medications--he could pass that. But again if you try to minimize the amount of unprotected sex (get ovulation test and only have unprotected sex on the two days during ovulation per month that should be ok. Does your husband have an undetectable viral load??? That lessons risk. Go ahead girl! Lots of pos women are having babies now!

PS Write back and let me know what happens!
