I have been diagnosed when I was pregnant with my 3rd child and that was in 2001. I have been positive since 1999. It was devastating for me but I treated myself with all of my HAART medications for 1 year straight. After that, I discontinued my meds because my insurance issues. I haven't taken my meds since and I am healthy as an ox. I went to get my CD4 Count and It was in the 600's and I was 10 when I was diagnosed. I am not saying that I am the lucky one, but I have been doing fine w/o meds for 3 years. I will get on the new meds soon but just because my doc says so now. But all in all I feel great and I have 4 kids I take care of.

Hi Melimel1976, I'm a little confused....you said you were pregnant w/ your third child when you were diagnosed, but then said...you were 10 when you were diagnosed. ?? BUT about the medication issue....I was put on meds when I was first diagnosed about 10 yrs ago. took meds for 7 yrs (only becuase it was thought that you should be on meds)..then i realized that you can stop for a while (which was a releif due to lipodystraphy)!!! and now I have been off for almost a year and nubmers are doing great (I went back on meds b-cuz I was pregnant), but before that, ... I was off meds for almost 2 yrs with my numbers doing super. cd4 about 6 or 7 hundred, and viral load has never been above 1500!! very lucky!! So it depends on YOU, and how you handle things. I honestly believe my viral load is so low becuase I have been on meds for such a long time so early in my infection. Good luck to you all you decide to do. Please keep in touch.
love and prayers deb
