Need support and a snazzy name for HIV prevention gel...
Microbicides gel or cream can stop the transmission of HIV and STD's. It's also women controlled and would therefore be ideal in many parts of the world where women can not negotiate with their partner to use a condom.
There's a bill in Congress right now written by microbicides advocates and introduced by Rep. Connie Morella (R-MD). The bill (H.R. 3891) increases microbicide research funding at the National Institutes of Health. This is necessary because pharmaceutical companies do not consider the market of microbicides lucrative enough. This bill will certainly die in committee if support is not garnered.
So, back to my original discussion request. I've been trying to think of a name that could both describe microbicides and double for the name of a grass-roots group to lobby and advocate for the funding. Problem is, microbicides is too scientific sounding.
The best I've heard is "AIDS prevention gel" and "invisible-condom"
So, you see, there's obviously room to improve.
