I have been diagnosed with HIV associated lipodystrophy causing a huge belly. I'm 27 years old and I've tried exercise, changing my diet, among other things to try to lose the belly. I recently talked to my doctor about starting Egrifta and he told me "No, he's looked into the drug and won't write scripts for any of his patients". This truly bothers me because I feel it should be my choice whether or not I want to try the medication. Is there a way to find a doctor in the detroit metro area that is willing to prescribe this medication to those who medically need it?

Did you ask the Dr. why he doesn't care for that specific medication? I'm sureif you ask he will tell you . You don't just change meds without researching. I too suffer with lipo . I was switched to Atripla. That has helped . I still have some gut but in time it will reduce . I 've gone to the gym for years to try to build legs back up . They haven't grown back to the beautiful gams that they once were but they are strong. There is an article in the Achieve Magazine on lipo. See if you can google it. But it's something that we learn to live with and maintain. Let me know how it goes with it all.

I looked into Egrifta, there just happened to be an article about it in the Achieve magazine, and I see why your doctor doesn't want to prescribe it. Have you seriously looked into it all or did you just stop reading when you saw that it " could possibly " help with lipodystrophy. I read it all and certainly would NOT take that med. If you look hard enough you could find a doctor that would prescribe arsnic if you wanted but would that be a good doctor?

I had asked my Doc about it,and she said to wait til there is more information abouit its long term effects. Plus with my liver damage from hep b, she said she wouldnt feel safe giving me a script. You might want to check all the soide effects on it before you run out and get it. It might do mor edamage than you want.

I too asked my doctor who said if I really wanted it he would precribe it for me. But as we sat together and looked at all the side effects and dangers , I realized that I would be better off just dealing with my little budda belly. I find that going to gym and keeping good posture helps. We all usually have lousey posture which doen't help. Just look at it this way, " It's just all the move to love and hug"

I have been on Egrifta for three months. I saw a brochure in the waiting room at the clinic, and I asked my doctor if he thought it would be good for me to try. We discussed the risks and side effects and I decided the benefits were worth trying it.
After my first month, I was ready to discontinue it because I was not seeing any significant change in my waistline. I stuck with it, however, and by the third month, I have seen progress.
It is interesting. I have not lost much weight, but it seems like my weight has been redistributed from the places I have too much to the places I need it. My butt and arms and face seem to be a bit fuller. Also, I don't know if this is really related to the Egrifta but (I kid you not) my penis seems fatter.
I have experienced some minor joint pain but nothing terrible. If things continue to move in this direction, I am pleased.

Comparing Egrifta to arsenic is severe and a bit dramatic. I have been using Egrifta for three months and am seeing results. It may not be for everyone but no point in scaring people away from trying it.
