I read that mushrooms --- maitake and shiitake, to be exact --- can help up the immune system, and are seen as possible cure for HIV.
I have recently bought mushroom extract supplements, and just wondering: will it be safe to take them alongside my ARV meds?

Hi!
I can guarantee that they do not cure HIV. Be very cautious of any product that does claim that. I am sure that many natural foods, herbs, and concoctions can positively affect the immune system and might even help retard the virus' ability to replicate, but it is a retrovirus, that means that it would take advanced medical technology to rid it from the body.
I sure wish there was a magic mushroom that would cure us, but if this was true, then I am certain it would have been discovered and well publicized by now - it's not that exotic, and has been researched on other ailments already.
