I am taking Truvada and Sustiva and have been for 2 weeks. 8 days in I developed a rash which has become progressively worse. It covers most of the surface area of my inner thighs and upper back and is also present in significant amounts everywhere on my body apart from my genitals and lips. I went to A&E as the sexual health clinic was closed and they rang the infectious diseases dept at another hospital and described my symptoms. Because the rash was not on ym lips and was not blistering the doctor said I should continue taking my meds and he's see me on Tuesday. Has anyone else experienced such a widespread rash? Its been here for 4 days now and is getting itchier and hotter!

I was put on the same meds as you are on in May this year and had the same reaction it started of looking a bit like a heat rash but after a day it got worse day 3 all over my body apart from my face. Hopefully by now if it was as severe as mine you will have been taken off the meds and your doctor give you new meds to try.
I was at a later apointment tould by my doctor that If I satyed on the medication the rash could have distroyed my skin and burnt off - not bare thinking about, so as you can imagine it has to be looked at by your own (GUM) docktor a.s.a.p
My doctor get me to take tablets to clear the rash for a while but no improvement so was taken off the tablets Sustiva that caused the rash and given new meds.

I saw my GUM doctor and she said while it was florid and very widespread because it wasn't blistering if I wanted to give it another 10 days I could. It wasn't steven johnson's syndrome.
In the 3 days after that the rash got a lot better. It stopped being itchy, became a dull, faint red and faded altogether from some areas. Unfortunately in the last 5 days it hasn't improved much more.
It is not bothering me any more and so I am willing to see if it is just taking its time to disappear. I'm just worried what I have at the moment might be permanent scarring but I hope that's just paranoia! I see my doc again on Friday.
