Starting Treatment??
      #248820 - 12/18/09 11:08 AM

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site, still kinda figuring everything out... anyways

I'm a 21 year old newly diagnosed HIV+ male, just had my first labs done in Sept.
My lab results were:
9/15 - CD4 277 VL ~ 9,000
10/01 - CD4 317 VL ~ 10,000
11/01 - CD4 354 VL ~ 18,000

My doctor wants me to consider beginning treatment in the next few months even though my CD4 is rising and my VL is relatively low, but I'm not sure if this is the best choice for me right now.

What do you think? What would be the benefits/disadvantages to beginning treatment right now?

And what's up with my CD4 count? Why the jump from 277 to 354?

Thanks in adavance

Hi mate,

I was diagnosed on July 15 2009; was negative in May and June when I went on PEP! Anyway, the point is I had recent infection.

Now there is emerging resreach which points towards early treatment; infact a lot of scientist such as Anthony Fauci, Tae-Wook Chun and the late Martin Delaney are all of the view that if eradication is to be achieved, it will perhaps be in patients who start treatment right away!

Also, the FDA in the US have now indicated starting treatment at CD4: 500.

However, its a personal choice as once you start, we will have to be on treatment for life; however, if it works, then we may not have to be treatment for life.

I hope you can make an informed decision.
