Hello all-
I am newly diagnosed, and just getting into the process of researching all about HIV and potential alternative treatments. I am a voracious reader and spend a good bit of time each day reading papers and digging up info on my new internal "stowaway" LOL.
I ran across a treatment, called Low-Dose Naltrexone, that claims to help support immune system functioning in many ways. This is a medication that has been around a while in a higher dose form, but being studied a little in approx 1/10 potency for treatment of various diseases with some promising results, at least initially.
The site below is where I have found some info. They do not sell anything as this is a prescription, albeit one that (I believe) who's patent has expired, so the drug companies wouldn't have a great profit motive...so it seems there is little funding for studies of this approach.

If anyone has any personal experience or further information about this particular drug, please let me know... I am going to ask my doctor about this when I see him next.

Hi R,
I actually looked into this 7 years ago when I was first Diagnosed. I think we all go through the same questioning process!
I actually ordered and started taking Naltrexone and to be honest didn't feel any better or any worse. The reality of this drug is that if it were beneficial to HIV there would have been some major study into it (taking out of the equation the age old argument about pharma companies not wanting to back drug trials into cheap compounds - that's bull!)
My own personal advice to you would be, to just eat a healthy diet, exercise and take a multi vit. Keep all your appointments with your doctor and follow their advice.
There are some other compounds that have been shown to help support the immune function of an HIV positive person : GLA , NAC. Selenium (no more than 200 ug daily). Things like Milk Thistle, Beetroot, Water Mellon etc all have specific compounds that have studies to back their effective 'support' of the immune function and liver i.e. these do not cure HIV.
Happy to chat offline if you want any more direction on this. Like you, I was fanatical about it in the early days. Just don't read too much, there's a lot on the internet that's incorrect.
And remember to laugh long, deep and as many times as you can - that medicine is worth a thousand pills!
